This video compares press conferences held by Prime Minister of New Zealand Jacinda Ardern and the President of the United States Donald Trump on the novel corona virus (SARS-CoV-2). Using epistemic network analysis (ENA), a technique for analyzing discourse over time, this video highlights patterns in the ways each national leader discusses the COVID-19 pandemic. The analysis shown is based on a quantitative ethnography of world leaders’ speeches that was conducted as part of the QE COVID Data Challenge.
